Shakingly Good
Shakopee has a secret. Well, it’s not a very good secret. I seem to read articles about this restaurant all the time. But I never seem to hear anyone mention it outside of Shakopee. And that’s a shame. Because Dangerfield’s is rated one of the top restaurants in the Twin Cities.
From the outside, Dangerfield’s seems very unassuming. However, when you walk in the door, you might double check to make sure your shirt’s tucked in and there’s a shine on your shoes. This is a large, elegant space. The purple walls and ceiling combined with lots of rich woods make you feel like you’re in for a treat. And the menu confirms it.
Dangerfield’s has a menu section called Entrees of Distinction. To give you a “taste” of what’s in this section, I suggest the following: Bleu Cheese-crusted Medallions (the owner’s favorite), Crab Stuffed Walleye, Herb-crusted Rack of Lamb with Raspberry-chipotle sauce. If I haven’t enticed you with one of these options, you really need to see a doctor.
The entrees generally run from $17 to $26. The soups and appetizers can run from $3.50 to $10 dollars and include some truly unique selections such as 1919 Root Beer BBQ Shrimp and Steamed Mussels Provencal. They also offer burgers and sandwich wraps. If you’re looking for something green, they have a nice selection of salads but there’s one I just have to describe: breaded walleye fingers placed on top of a bed of romaine tossed in a kiwi poppy seed dressing with fresh strawberry, mandarin oranges, black olives and red onion for $9.99. Dessert is presented on a tray after dinner.

Pizza In A Loft

With all the lofts going up in Downtown Minneapolis, downtown isn’t so much about going out anymore as it is about staying in. In town, that is. And one of the fun things about Pizza Luce is, it feels like a loft. It’s like eating out, at home. And to add to the fun, the employees are more like party guests. With the great food someone else makes and then serves you, it all gets rather confusing when you’re in or out or…
To make up my mind, I hung out one afternoon in the downtown Minneapolis Pizza Luce. I recommend starting out with the Artichoke Dip. Of course, I love artichokes. Or, if you want to get a feel for everything, you’re in luck. They offer a Sampler that is also available Vegan upon request. The Sampler is $10.99. Most of the appetizers average around seven dollars.

Fine Dining for Family or Business

At first glance, “comfort food” and “business lunch” might seem like strange bedfellows. But not after you’ve eaten at the Split Rock Grille. Of course, when you have such a diverse clientele to feed, your best bet really is just what mom might have made. And why do they have a diverse clientele? Because they’re located in the Radisson Hotel Bloomington sitting smack dab between the airport and the Mall Of America!
So what qualifies as comfort food? I’ll start out with one of their most popular items, the Mini Burger Stackers. You can get them in the appetizer menu or the regular menu under Burgers but they’re yummy and a hoot. Tiny hamburgers stuck on a stick like a kabob. They are $7.25 as an appetizer or $8.50 as an entrée.
They also offer a Family Style Meal with portions to serve anywhere from 2 to 6 people. It’s basically a heaping big platter of spaghetti with piled with meatballs or sausage. Priced anywhere from $32.95 to $39.95.
The menu is also diverse. They have four Grand Entrée Salads for $9.95, three other pasta selections for $9.95, burgers for about $9, seven different sandwiches including an Open Face Pot Roast Sandwich for $10.95, and the Split Rock Entrees running from $13.95 for the Beef Pot Roast to $26.95 for the Filet Mignon. And they, of course, have a full bar to go with that steak.
You can also count on them to have your kids favorites.

Colombia Especiale

You know you have something special when you’re invited to open your restaurant in a new building. That’s what happened to Maria Hoyos a year ago when eighteen different restaurants competed to move into the Ancient Trader’s Market at Eleventh Avenue and East Franklin.
Maria’s Café features Columbian food. Whereas most Mexican food is hot and spicy, Maria uses mostly garlic and cumin so the flavor of the food comes through. Maria’s unique blend of North and South American flavors entices regular customers from as far away as Rochester.
Tropical fruit also plays a major role at Maria’s café. Her fruit pancakes, voted best in Twin Cities by City Pages, feature blueberry, mango, banana, raspberry, pineapple, or strawberry with Maria’s homemade syrup. Other pancakes include wild rice, raisin and walnut, and corn pancakes. She also offers alternatives to orange juice including guava, passion fruit, mango, guanabana or papaya.
Another favorite is Maria’s Columbian Huevos Pericos: Three scrambled eggs with diced tomatoes, green onions, white onions, and special seasoning on a tortilla with homemade salsa. Other egg dishes include Juan’s Breakfast Sandwich served on a croissant and Pablo’s Omelet.
For an extra boost with your meal, Maria’s serves espresso, cappuccino, latte or mocha. And for dessert, try the Columbian Flan, a special treat not found elsewhere in the Twin Cities.

For years we have been going to Lone Spur for the very best Texas brisket and barbecue. They have a full bar with one of the most reasonable prices in the Twin Cities. Service is always good even on crowded nights.
They also have NFL Sunday Ticket with specials on drinks and appitizers.
You notice right away that they take their food seriously slow grilling their meats for up to 18-hours!
Oh yes, the treat! Lone Spur has a new feature! They just started a 3 Course Combo dinner for 2 for just $25.00, sweet!
