On An Evening in Roma… Okay, so most of you probably never heard that song by Dean Martin. Hey, I’m OLD. But I enjoy a plate full of pasta with the best of them. So when I find a place with good pasta, sandwiches and pizza, and they’re fast, inexpensive and have take-out…Hey Paisano, I’m there!Enter Joey Nova’s. Even the name sounds like one of those little Italian places in Chicago with the red and white checkered table cloths and a big Italian guy yelling at the cooks. When I spoke with the General manger of Joey Nova’s, I got the feeling that was one of the targets they were “shooting” for. Let’s take a look at the menu. First and foremost is the Neapolitan pizza. You can get it with anything from Artichoke Hearts to Anchovies. It’s a 60 year old Connecticut recipe with whole milk mozzarella and home-made tomato sauce. And the best part is, you can get it by the slice, just like proper New York pizza joints. A medium runs about $8.50 and a large will set you back about $11.75. By the slice is about $2.75. And they also have Specialty Pizzas like Chicken Gorgonzola and Beef & Bacon for a little bit more. Okay, so what else do they have? Glad you asked. Hot Plates like Eggplant Parmesan and Lasagna are $8.00. Chicken Wings and Chicken Fingers are also on the menu. But something else I got excited about was the sandwiches. They offer deli sandwiches made for you for around $7. Freshly sliced meats (not out of a bag or thawed) and veges and artisan breads. Reuben and Rachel are hanging out together and there’s even a Vege Melt and a Tuna Melt. What’s more, they have Grilled Hot Subs. They run around $7 also. They have an even bigger assortment of those but I got excited by the East Coast Assorted; Genoa salami, Capicola, Black Forest ham, lettuce, tomato, vinaigrette and mayo. Oh baby… Now let’s get down to the nitty gritty. They’re located in Plymouth at 10100 N. 6th Avenue (next to Rainbow Foods) and in Tonka Bay at 5655 Manitou Rd. Phone numbers are 763-225-8440 and 952-405-2700, respectively. And their hours are |
