It’s been a long day at the office. You want to unwind. No, you need to unwind. You want to be surrounded by fine wood and leather but you desire modern style. You’re looking to catch up on the latest sports scores, and you’d like a fine meal with a martini to match. You need to go to Majors Sports Bar.
When I asked Ryan Wentz, Regional Manager for Majors, what their target was, he said they were looking to fill the niche between neighborhood sports bars and high-end restaurants. “We took the sports bar theme and spiced it up. No beer signs and no neon. We hired a top notch designer to create something new in the sports bar arena and we hired the chef from Kinkaids to liven up the menu.”
The décor alone is a treat. Funky lighting fixtures abound, splashing the walls with soft light. A burnished stainless steel bar combined with rich wood accents becons. A deep warm red relaxes across the walls. There are also 32 TVs strategically placed in the bar and restaurant. A game room with two pool tables, video games, an ATM, and two internet access terminals sits off to the side. Majors also features Wi-Fi access throughout the building. For special occasions, there’s the Highland Room, a large banquet area with a fireplace, projection screen, and the latest complement of terminal and power access. There is also a two tiered patio with umbrellas.
Their chef, Ryan Aberle, was very excited about the items he offers on the menu. The first thing he described was the steakhouse-style prime rib. “It’s smoked with seasonings and then packed in rock salt similar to brisket. We slowly heat it for eight hours. First the rock salt gets hot and this causes the meat to cook evenly. It’s a long process but worth it when you have our prime rib.” He also described their hand-patted burgers that are infused with cheese, onion, garlic, cumin, and cayenne. For a first visit, Ryan highly recommended the boneless Buffalo Wings or the Thai Tid Bits as a starter. He also recommended either the Jambalaya or the shaved prime rib sandwich with the mayo or horseradish dip. “Then finish up with a big piece of chocolate cake!”
Majors is both family friendly and team friendly. They pride themselves on their ability to accommodate any situation. They offer a late night menu and a Sunday brunch. Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights and for special occasions they are open until two am. They offer a full bar featuring Budweiser and Miller products plus a complement of seasonal premium & import beers. They also have a wide selection of martinis. Wednesday night is wing night with twenty-five cent wings and five different complimentary sauces.
‘Starters’ as Majors calls their appetizers, average between $7 and $9. Side salads run $5 while entrée salads are $9. Sandwiches are $8 to $11. Pizzas are $9. Entrees fall between $11 and $18 with several around the $13 dollar range. Majors is open Monday - Saturday 11:00am - 1:00am and Sunday 10:30pm - 1:00am. Happy Hour is every Monday through Friday from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm with late night happy hour Monday through Thursday 10:00 pm - 12:30 am.
