Sunsets Restaurant - Woodbury

Escape The Chains

Life is complicated. Life is messy. Going out to dinner shouldn’t be. The beauty of going out to eat is that for a little while, someone treats you like you’re special (regardless of your station in life), serves you (rather than the other way around), and you get to taste delights that you can’t, (or don’t want to) make at home. And if you go to the right place, the décor is classy but comfortable, the prices are reasonable, and you feel like you’ve had a vacation without traveling to Disney World. That’s why I like hanging out at Sunsets of Woodbury.

Sunsets of Woodbury’s decor is a fascinating combination of the close comfort of an English pub and the open sophistication of urban style. Several sports TVs grace the massive bar but the sound is turned down. Spunky jazz floats gently overhead. As I’m writing this, I’m enjoying a Combo burger with swiss and bacon, medium rare (they nailed it, too), French fries (as an alternative to the kettle chips it comes with), and a Labatts Blue draft. The fries stayed crunchy, the burger was phenomenal, and I haven’t enjoyed a Labatts on tap since the last time I was in The menu here is extensive. Appetizers take up an entire page with everything from Fresh Deep Fried Mushrooms for $6.50 to Classic Shrimp Cocktail for $10.95. Then there is a large assortment of salads including one I simply must describe to you. It’s called Roasted Pear Salad. It contains mixed greens, cinnamon roasted pears, gorgonzola cheese, seasonal tomatoes, blueberries, candied pecans and raspberry vinaigrette. Need I say more? Specialties include Meatloaf ala for $10.95 and Herb-Roasted Free Range Chicken for $12.95 along with four other items. Excuse me, but I have to interrupt. I just started dessert. It’s a Flan torte smothered with wild blueberries and sprinkled with confectioner’s sugar. Writing becomes work when you have to stop eating this flan to hit the keys.

They also offer five pasta dishes, six brick oven pizzas and a calzone from $7.95 to $11.95. The steak, chops and seafood section pretty well covers the ballpark. Next is a page of sandwiches and burgers for under ten dollars. The house specialties include Meatloaf ala Marsala, Fish and Chips and Herb Roasted Free Range Chicken for $12.95. Lastly, they have a low-carb lifestyle menu for those trying to live lightly. Sunsets of Woodbury is Monday thru Saturday from 11am till 1am and Sunday from 10am until Midnight. Sunday brunch, a favorite of Sunsets fans, is from 10am to 2pm.
